Directions to the Cottage: Use Google Maps for directions (Apple Maps does not recognize the exact location).
Roadway/Parking Access: This cottage has secluded access within a private lake community.
The road in/out of our property is a rural, bumpy, dirt & stone road, with couple inclines (see “How To” page for video reference). It is not paved. We share this not to alarm. It is not difficult to navigate, but you must be mindful during inclement weather scenarios (heavy rain or snow). If you are not comfortable driving rural mountain access ways, this lodging experience is not for you.
We recommend All-Wheel Drive or 4x4 vehicles, especially during snow filled visits. You typically will not need 4-wheel drive (unless conditions are very wet or snowy), but you definitely do not want to drive a sedan or sports car that sits low to the ground. The bottom of those types of vehicles will get scraped or have difficulty traversing the road.
In the winter months we recommend checking in advance for storms, similar to traveling to a beach destination during hurricane season. Road into the cottage is not plowable and is beyond our control. Always best to check the weather in advance of departure.
You assume full responsibility driving the road to the cottage.
Parking it at the top of the property just off the road.
Pedestrian Access: There are no sidewalks.
Please be mindful of the walk from the parking area down to the cottage. You will be walking through grass and over tree roots. During wet/snowy/icey weather it can get slippery.
There is lots of tree canopy. As such, steps and decking into the property can get slippy when wet or if algae builds up unexpectedly.
Exterior Lighting: There are two motion detector floodlight / camera units at the front & rear gable ends of the cottage. There are two deck lights (at steps & front door) that can be turned on manually inside the cottage.
It it not our intention to spy on you during your visit!! We have much better things to do with our time :^) The camera functionality will be turned OFF during your stay. The camera is simply for monitoring the property during vacancy.
At night time, you may notice the flood lights come on unexpectedly. Do not be alarmed! The motion activated lights can get triggered by branches waving in the wind or if a squirrel happens by.
Deck Lighting: There are two deck lights, controlled by interior light switches.
One switch is inside the primary entry
The other is on the exterior kitchen wall
Please ensure deck lighting is turned off (inside the cottage) upon your departure.
On-site Outdoor Amenities:
Outdoor - Row Boat, Canoe with paddles, Old school pedal boat. Life jackets and different floating devices. CornHole and other outdoor games. Fishing Rods, Reels, and Tackle.
Lock code to the shed is 1969
Please make sure the lock is secured upon departure
Fire Pit - please be very careful and mindful of containing fires and fully extinguishing before turning in for the evening and/or upon departure.
Local Amenities:
Less than a mile from this cottage sits Cables General Store. Originally established in 1910, Cables is great old-time throwback to the community general stores of old. They offer a variety of quality breakfast and casual dining options, as well as catering services!
Additionally, there are number of great local restaurants and watering holes, within a short drive of the lake! You’ll definitely want to check out The Beacon Bar & Grill (1.7 miles), The Speakeasy Saloon & Resort (4.6 miles), Arlo’s Country Store & Tavern (5.5 miles), and Chet’s Place (6.5 miles)!
Should you be in need of last minute supplies, Arlo’s Country store is your typical down home/small town convenience mini-mart spot (ice, toiletries, food, beverages, beer, wine, etc.)
The closest town with a supermarket is Forrest City (6.4 miles). Zazzera's Super Market should cover most additional needs.
For the adventurous:
Located just 5.8 miles from Elk Mountain Ski Resort, you'll have easy access to some of the best skiing and snowboarding in PA!
For the more adventurous you can hike up Elk Mountain during the off-skiing season.
Explore the nearby D&H and O&W Rail Trails; perfect for hiking, biking, and off-road adventures.
Enjoy your stay! We’re new to short-term vacations rentals and we welcome your feedback, candor, and/or suggestions.
